Frozen glass in the car. Inside and outside – what to do?

Frozen glass in the car
Frozen glass in the car

Winter has come, negative temperatures appear. And already starting from -5 degrees the windshield of the car starts to freeze (covered with ice). You go out in the morning and you need to work as a scraper, or to warm up the car for a long time so that it all melts. But it happens that this plaque may be inside, from the cabin. So how to get rid of it, what to do? There are some helpful tips

Reason of appearance

Very banal – condensate. The colder on the street than the warmer in the car, you will not ride in a cold cabin. While the machine is working, the stove blows on the glass, it removes all misting and frost, simply warming up the “front part”.

But after the stove is turned off, the heat in the cabin lasts for some time, but there is no blow. As a result, condensate is formed (by the way, it can be outside and inside), and it trivially freezes – that is ice. As I wrote above – it’s just physics.

We clean the outside

There are only a couple of old-fashioned methods that still work. The first is temperature equalization.

So that the condensate does not form from the warm air, you need to make the air in the cabin as cold as outside. That is to equalize the temperature.

How do you do it without a difference. We turn off the engine – turn off the stove – lower the windows (two front or all four) – open the doors. The main thing is to stand, thus, a couple – three minutes (this is enough) for the warm air to go out. AND EVERYTHING! Freeze glass will be at times less.

If you stand like that, there is no desire – the men in the parking lot will laugh. You can drop one-side new windows Calgary at night, not much, say 5 mm (just leave a crack).

According to the laws of physics, warm air will come out through it, the temperature balance will even out with the street – again, the glass will freeze much less. BUT! This method is relevant only in a well-guarded parking lot (do not tempt thieves)

Freeze inside

When freezing inside, you can again air out the car, in front of an overnight stay. It will not be superfluous. BUT there is another, second in a row, old-fashioned method that removes excess moisture inside the cabin:

The principle of operation in ordinary salt is that it perfectly absorbs moisture if it is poured into some kind of container, or into a cloth bag (many pour it into a sock) and put it in a car. That excess water vapor will be absorbed by it, the freezing of the glass from the inside will decrease.

BUT we are living in the 21st century, now there are more advanced compositions than salt. I already mentioned about him on my blog – this is “silica gel” . Transparent and solid. It absorbs moisture from the air much better and faster.

Just a couple of tips

Well, in the end, I want to remind you of such important rules that you must remember so that your glass does not freeze:

  • Always remove excess snow or moisture from the floor mats. Especially when it’s snowing hard
  • Watch out for the heating system. Especially so that there are no smudges from the stove and its compounds (after all, antifreeze or TOSOL contain alcohols, and evaporate very quickly, covering the entire glass from the inside, and then freezing)

As you can see, the methods are quite simple, let’s repeat a little:

  • Ventilate the cabin, before the night parking (or leave a crack in the side window), leveling the temperature behind the cabin and in the cabin
  • Put silica gel.
  • Get rid of moisture on floor mats
  • Monitor the health of the interior heating system.
